BFA THESIS: BETWEEN TWO SPACES

ABOUT

Between Two Spaces is a book that explores what it means to navigate two drastically different cultures while growing up in a conflict-avoidant, immigrant family system. As an Egyptian-American, I often found myself caught between expectations, identities, and emotional landscapes that didn’t always align.

This publication documents my personal growth within that tension — the space between who I was expected to be and who I was becoming. Through writing, typography, and intimate visual storytelling, I aimed to create a place of reflection and healing for others who share similar experiences.

DESIGN QUESTION:

How can I communicate the feeling of being suspended between Egyptian and American culture? And how can a publication bring together people with similar stories, helping them feel seen, understood, and heard?
