AIGA A20 AWARDS:

CATALOG COVER DESIGN

ABOUT

For the AIGA A20 Awards, I designed the event catalog cover for the annual celebration of design excellence. Centered around the theme Heart and Soul, the visual identity drew inspiration from Kansas City's historic jazz district and the energy, rhythm, and cultural significance it represents. My process began with extensive visual research and mood boarding, where I found inspiration in the bold forms, vibrant movement, and playful compositions of the Memphis Design movement.

To translate these influences into a unique visual language, I experimented with cutting shapes and typography from paper by hand, creating a jagged and expressive aesthetic that felt fluid, energetic, and human. These analog explorations became the foundation for the final catalog cover, allowing me to capture the spontaneity and vibrancy of jazz while maintaining a strong graphic presence. The resulting design reflects both the spirit of the event and the creative heartbeat of Kansas City's design community.
