COPTIC WOMEN ZINE
ABOUTCopt {/ˈkäpt/} — a member of Egypt’s indigenous Christian ethnoreligious community, most commonly associated with the Coptic Orthodox Church.
The church plays a central role in Coptic cultural identity, but growing up, I became increasingly aware of the sexism embedded within many of its traditions and social expectations. In a community that values modesty, obedience, and silence, conversations about gender inequality are often avoided, leaving many women without a voice.
This zine is a collection of personal experiences — my own and those of close friends — reflecting on the unequal treatment of women in our church and culture. Through illustration and typography, the piece confronts these issues directly, offering both critique and catharsis. It was created not only as a call for change, but as a step toward healing.
